Priority Area’s

Ngo Dwe Waanzizjik – The Urban Indigenous Sacred Circle (UISC) is a unified collective motivated to address all aspects of one’s well-being in the following priority areas by combining many indigenous led organizations to respond to our community needs. Our priority areas embody the Four Directions, as well as Father Sky, Mother Earth, and Spirit Tree; all of which symbolize dimensions of health and the cycles of life.

We are stronger together; we are all one.

F

NORTH

Elder / Physical

Elders, grandparents and death. This is the place of wisdom and of imparting the knowledge gained from a lifetime of living in the physical world to the younger generations. It is a time of reflection, rest and increased understanding of the aspects of the spiritual world.

Our Goal

Our goal is to provide a more unified approach to address the betterment of the Indigenous Determinants of health.  Indigenous peoples in Canada continue to suffer greater inequities on a number of factors that impact their lives. As a result, they bear a greater burden of ill health compared to other Canadians. For example:

  • Early life
  • Education
  • Employment and working conditions
  • Gender
  • Food security
  • Health care services
  • Housing
  • Income and its distribution
  • Social safety net
  • Social exclusion
  • Unemployment and employment security
  • Colonialism / Colonization
  • Racism / Marginalization
  • Dislocation / Social Exclusion
  • Self Reliance / Self Determination
  • Drinking water
  • Food insecurity
  • Poverty
  • Chronic conditions e.g. diabetes
  • Alcohol and drug misuse
